reap what you grow, collision of comforts, 2013
how i could know
the flowers i bought from overseas
the pictures i saw were sure to please
i watched it grow
but when summer was cold
that lonely plant had choked the grass down to the bone
it climbed the trees
it scared the birds
and killed the bees
the mass destruction brought me to my knees
hey, you will reap what you grow
then i am shown
a heap of garbage and rusty screws
as i browse the news looking for the truth
i watched them throw the sound bites
and the sneak attacks
tug the strings of puppets
never mind the facts
coming in low
drop the payload
yank the stick
chicken hawks will miss
the pilot's name is dick
hey, you will reap what you grow
the world might explode
there's a lot of us and not much food
and what we got doesn't look like you
but would we know
how to till the ground
and plant the seeds
and stop the waste
and trim the weeds
what would we do
to fight the fight
and balance scales
to catch the tuna
and save the whales
hey, you will reap what you grow
