shades of gray, clouds, 2010

white as the brightest light
black as the darkest night

silver symbol on a chain
draped across a rocky grave
peaceful thoughts rest in my brain
no two clouds are the same shade

presented this day just to me
a gift so soft and billowy
sometimes harsh as jagged steel
as cold as a rifle bolt to feel

white as the brightest light
black as the darkest night

follow pavement forty days
mountain peaks will block the way
in foggy mist there rests a lake
hard concrete I will forsake

tornado scars upon the land
disappear into the vast ocean
I comb my hair a different way
no two clouds are the same shade

while colors rule the day
what I see are shades of gray
while colors rule the day
what I see are shades of gray

black as the darkest night
white as the brightest light
